The Art of the Cocktail: A Bangkok Perspective with Palm Supawit
Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, has emerged as a global hub for culinary delights and unforgettable experiences. Its bustling bar scene, a melting pot of cultures and flavours, offers something to cater to every palate. From hidden speakeasies to rooftop bars with panoramic city views, Bangkok's cocktail scene is a treasure trove for discerning drinkers.
Amidst this vibrant backdrop, Palm Supawit, co-founder of Dry Wave Cocktail Studio, has carved a niche for himself with his innovative and captivating creations. Inspired by a single book, Palm's journey in the industry began with a love for hospitality and a curious mind.
What sparked your passion for mixology?
PS: It was the "Barista Book" by Chihiro Yokohama that changed everything for me. The detailed explanations and stunning visuals pulled me into the world of coffee and cocktails. It introduced me to the artistry and science behind the craft, and I was hooked. That book was the starting point of my journey, leading me to where I am today in the cocktail world.
What’s your approach to creating cocktails?
PS: For me, crafting cocktails is about creating experiences, not just drinks. I draw inspiration from art, literature, and travel to make each concoction unique and memorable. It’s all about blending flavours and textures in a way that tells a story, and I love experimenting to push the boundaries of what a cocktail can be.
How have you contributed to Bangkok’s bar scene?
PS: As a co-founder of Dry Wave Cocktail Studio, I’ve been able to showcase my mixology skills, but it’s also been important to me to help grow and develop the city’s bar culture. I’m passionate about building a supportive community, collaborating with other bar owners and mixologists to elevate the industry as a whole. Through mentorship and sharing knowledge, I’ve worked to inspire the next generation of mixologists to keep the culture thriving.
What are your aspirations for the future?
PS: I want to expand Dry Wave Cocktail Studio and maybe even explore new ventures like opening a café or an ice cream shop. My commitment to innovation and my love for the craft are what keep me pushing forward, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
